Illernartunnguaq

Nunatta Isiginnaartitsisarfia has been given a unique opportunity to collaborate with the renowned Japanese director Izumi Ashizawa and her performance The Little Goddess, which in Greenlandic has the title "Illernartunnguaq". It is a show with a lot of music, physics and puppets, for a young and adult audience from 11 years and up. The story deals with some of the big themes such as being different, dealing with traditions, life, death and love. It is a story about a main character who suffers from cultural and identity displacement, but lives gracefully in his own complex imaginary world.
Our society is facing serious social problems, including child abuse and, consequently, a tragic result with a high suicide rate among young people. Illernartunnguaq tackles the issues of child abuse and teenage suicide in a mythological time frame and a poetic format. Due to the serious topics that the performance deals with, we have chosen to work with an after-discussion with the audience, this is done in a new way. Art and cultural experiences can help open up and put into words some feelings and thoughts that are otherwise difficult to talk about.
