The performance “Hunden bakom mannen” is a new dance performance about the 97 Greenlandic sled dogs who were the first to set their paws on the South Pole.
In 1909 two men had the same idea: to be the first humans to conquer the South Pole. One of them was the British naval officer, Robert Falcon Scott, and the other was the famous Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen, who won by using greenlandic sled dogs to reach his goal.
Losti Collective stages this long passed historical event through the eyes, ears and paws of the expedition’s subaltern participants in a 60 minute dance performance. The piece was devised in Reykjavík and Helsinki during the pandemic in 2020-21, and premiered at Lókal Art Festival in Reykjavík, Iceland on the 26th of November 2021. It has since then been shown in Vapaan Taiten Tila in Helsinki, Scenofest in Calgary, Canada in August 2022, and Ungi Theatre Festival in Reykjavík.
