The National Theatre of Greenland is in the process of creating a Christmas family show that could become a classic in Greenland.
The starting point for the performance is Bent Haller's book The Story of Santa Claus. It has been worked on for the stage and rewritten to a greater extent based on the Greenlandic legend culture.
The story takes place around the winter solstice and is about the battle between the forces of light and the forces of darkness and evil. Innersuit (underworld spirits) have captured the sun and created eternal darkness. A polar bear has taken up the battle with the spirits, but has been badly injured.
Two brave children find the bear and see that it is half human and half bear, so they help him heal his wounds. The children now enter the battle to free the sun, and they must use all their courage, cleverness and charity before the battle is won.
